Rehaan Edavalath hit a half-century for Barnards Green but was on the losing side in the Birmingham and District Premier League Premier Division encounter with Halesowen.

The Worcestershire CCC youngster struck 66 off 112 balls and shared in a second wicket stand of 73 with Daniel Holland, who made 42 off 72 deliveries.

Edavalath hit two sixes and five fours before he was third out at 131 as Barnards Green totalled 207-7 in 50 overs. George Rhodes also contributed runs, scoring 47 off just 49 deliveries.

But his efforts were in vain as Halesowen, who were 122-6 at one stage, triumphed by four wickets with 14 balls to spare.

Former Worcestershire batter, Alexei Kervezee, was Halesowen’s hero with an unbeaten 86 off 87 balls with three sixes and nine fours. He shared in an unbroken stand of 86 with James Rudge (28 not out).

Jack Mackintosh was the pick of the Green bowlers with figures of 3-36, whilst there were wickets each for Rhodes, Ben Clarke and Phil Harris.

Having won their opening game of the BDPL Premier Division, in their first-ever season in the top-flight, Green have now also tasted defeat for the first time.

They are at home this weekend when they welcome Ombersley to North End Lane.

Elsewhere over the weekend, the 2XI maintained their spot at the top of Division 3 in the Worcestershire County League after a 26-run win over Himbleton.

Ben Cook's 60 put them on their way to recording 232 all-out inside 39 overs, before restricting the visitors to just 206/9 in their 50 overs. Ben Clements was the pick of the bowlers with 4-37 as Green edged the win.

The 3XI made light work of Bartestree & Lugwardine, winning by seven wickets, whilst the 4XI were beaten narrowly by just 17 runs at home to Brockhampton.
