Malvern RFC captain Liam Roleston was keen to focus on the positives after their opening game of the new season ended in a 38-7 defeat at Old Halesonians.
With no pre-season fixture, this was Malvern's first game of rugby since the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
And despite a rather comfortable win for the hosts, Roleston was impressed with some of the younger players involved.
"There are plenty of positives to take form it," said Roleston.
"The scoreline is obviously not too positive for us but with no pre-season game that was our first hit out and lots of players stood out individually.
"A few boys made their debuts and did really well and there is plenty to work with for the rest of the season."
Malvern play their first home game of the Regional 2 West Midlands season this weekend when they welcome Stratford Upon Avon to Spring Lane.
"It will be nice to have a few more first team regulars back this weekend," Roleston added.
"It will be harsh on some of the players who did so well last weekend but we shall see how we go in training and then make some decisions on the team for the home game on Saturday.
"We need to go away and work on accuracy in our attack in training as our defence improved second-half last weekend.
"But particularly, how we approach attacking in the red zone."
