Worcester Warriors’ captain Ted Hill has been rewarded for his brilliant season with a call-up to the England squad for a three-day training camp.

Hill, 23, has not been involved in the set-up since last year when he featured against USA and has only two caps for his country to date, having found it difficult breaking into a side full of strength in depth in the back-row position.

But with there being no players involved from the teams involved in the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals this weekend, Hill has been handed another chance to impress.

The Worcester skipper has been a standout for his club since he broke onto the scene four years ago but has taken his game to the next level in the 2021/22 campaign.

He has played in the second-row at times and also enjoyed a stint at number eight lately.

Versatility is something England head coach Jones is keen on and that looks to have pushed the Australian to recall Hill to the squad.

England will play against the Barbarians at Twickenham this month before their three-game tour to Australia in July.

Jones said: “With a number of players unavailable because of the Premiership semi-finals, we’ve got the opportunity to call up some new players.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn about them and see what potential they have to play a part in the Australia tour.

“We look forward to continuing the good work from our last camp in developing this team on and off the pitch.”

Hill is the only Worcester representative in the 35-man group, compared to six from Bath and 5 from Newcastle Falcons, two teams that finished below Worcester in the table in the Premiership.

There had been reports that Kyle Hatherell was in line for a shock call-up to the England Six Nations squad back in February but he was left out despite his impressive season.

Hatherell has gone strength to strength towards the back end of the 21/22 campaign, as well as young star fly-half Fin Smith and full-back Jamie Shillcock, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend.

Tickets are available for England v Barbarians FC priced from £25 for adults and £12 for under 16s.  The match is live on Amazon Prime Sport.
