BARNARDS Green 2XI continue to impress this season as they cemented their place at the top of Division Three in the Worcestershire County League with a seven-wicket win over Brockhampton 2nd XI.

The visitors to North End Lane on Saturday elected to bat but Pete Whittenbury broke the opening partnership when Joe Pritchard was caught by Elliot Hennessy for 10.

Robin Holgate was holding down one end but Cameron Bateman became Whittenbury’s second victim when he was bowled for 14.

A flurry of wickets saw Ben DaCunha run out by Witt for 2, George Cook caught by Ben Sutton off Hennessy for 1 and Chris Breeze bowled for 3 by Will Dovey.

Junior Price and Holgate had built a 6th wicket partnership of 52 when Jake Hill bowled Price for 24, he then grabbed two lbws as Edmund Keen and Elliot Floyd both returned to the pavilion scoreless.

After 42 overs at the crease Holgate was finally bowled for 42 by Adam Witt and he also cleaned up J Pugh for 0 to end the innings on 152 all out.

In reply, Green openers Ben Sutton and Rob Wilson did not hang about – racing to 63 off 8 overs.

Opening bowler Breeze grabbed the first wicket when Sutton was caught for 21 before George Blannin was then caught for 10 off Pritchard.

Wilson reached yet another half century as Green looked set to comfortably win the chase and even the wicket of Wilson (61) didn’t disrupt their progress.

Jay Styles (38 not out) and Harvey Ree (not out 6) saw the Green comfortably home inside 27 overs.
