THE team spirit shone through as Worcester City Youth sides defied the odds and opposition to progress in Nerf Junior Premier League Cup competitions.

The under 11s lost their regular goalkeeper to illness before the game and another team member in the warm-up ahead of their match at Stourbridge where they beat strong opposition 5-2 with a player less.

Leo Cerrone (4) and Louie McLean scored the goals.

The under 12s secured a 2-0 lead through Jake Brookes and Kyle Clayton inside seven minutes at Reading-based Procision which they held on to comfortably.

In the Midland Junior Premier League, City under 12s beat Oldbury United 4-1 via Ali Sadler (2), Jack Bradshaw and Jai-Jai Joyce.

The under eights were among the goals at Lower Teme and Martley Racers and the under sevens impressed against Lickhill Colts under eights.

For City’s under 11s teams, a change of formation benefited the Mercian Fortis Junior League side at Kidderminster Athletic Rhinos.

There was a strong display by the girls against Halas Hawks Warriors while the Lionesses improved on their previous outing against Kidderminster Harriers.

The under nines warmed up for this weekend's Mercian League Plate semi-final with a solid show against Nunnery Wood Colts Thunder.

There was semi-final heartache for City though as they lost 2-0 to Kidderminster Harriers in the Worcestershire FA Under 16s Cup.

After defeats in their previous two matches City’s reserves collected a valuable point in a 2-2 draw with Fairfield Villa.

Kieran Clayton netted direct from a corner and Jamie Smith levelled late on in a game they dominated.

In JPL action, the under 14s and under 15s were undone by set-pieces in narrow defeats to Alvechurch 2-0 and Shortwood 1-0 respectively.

Melissa Hinton scored for City in a 12-1 loss to Crusaders in the West Midlands Women’s League.
