BOSS Les Jones is keen to keep Pershore Town’s momentum going ahead of Saturday’s trip to trailblazing Shifnal Town (3pm).

It kicks off a crunch four-game spell as Town seek a spot in the top four of the West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Premier Division.

Leaders Shifnal had won all 15 league matches before Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Black Country Rangers and Jones says his side will be aiming to dish out more pain.

“We have to go out there to play as well as we can and hopefully, if we do that, we can pick up a positive result,” he said.

“The next four or five games are crucial with really tough games like Shifnal and Wolverhampton Casuals coming up so it is an important period for us.”

Town head into the game following an impressive 4-1 win over Shawbury United on Saturday, making it back-to-back wins.

“I was delighted with the performance,” he added.

“We were hit by a flu bug during the week and we had a few players missing so I was really pleased with the win.

“We were looking to be in touch with the top four at Christmas, which we are, and even though we dropped points earlier in the season, we’re looking good now.”

The top four sides will be promoted from the WMRL’s top flight with Pershore being just two points away after the weekend.

Pershore and Shifnal met earlier in the campaign with the leaders edging a narrow 2-1 victory at the Community Stadium. However, Jones doesn’t think that game will have too much baring this weekend.

“They have strengthened since then and signed a few more strikers so the team will be different. We can’t take too much from that game really,” said Jones who is also looking to add to his squad ahead of the weekend.

“We are always on the look out to add to the side and we might even have a few signings in time for this week,” Jones said.
