CO-manager Lee Hooper was left frustrated after Malvern Town exited the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup quarter-finals at higher-ranked Bromsgrove Sporting.

The Victoria Ground hosts from Southern League Premier Division Central won 5-0 on Tuesday with all the goals in the second period.

But Hooper felt his players' efforts deserved more and he was not happy with an early second-half red card for James Febery.

He said: “It’s a tough one to take as the scoreline does not reflect the performance that the lads put in.

“The dubious red card for James has changed the game massively. We were very much in it until going down to 10 men.

“Up until then apart from our own error which led to their opening goal it was an evenly-matched game.

“We then lost the services of Chaz (goalkeeper Charlie Weaver) again through injury and Pinds (Chris Pinder) came on and made some saves in between our attacks which frustratingly didn’t come off for us on this occasion.

“It’s a frustrating result and we also add another injury and suspension to our already long list.

“On a positive note it was good to get some senior minutes into Nathan Chowns-Higgs and Morgan Skidmore and both did well.”

Sporting's Greg Mills tested the returning Weaver early on while Kyonn Evans and Harry Clark were denied by the keeper at the other end.

Town impressed in the first half during which Febery was booked for a foul but the game turned quickly in the second period.

Richard Gregory fired the hosts ahead on 48 minutes and three minutes later Febery got his second yellow card for a foul on Michael Taylor.

Although Malvern did not let their heads drop Weaver was then forced off injured and Sporting cranked up the pressure.

Gregory rattled the woodwork and Taylor turned home the rebound on 64 minutes.

Sporting were reduced to 10 men on 66 minutes when Liam Spink picked up his second booking.

But then Taylor rounded Pinder to slot into an empty net on 70 minutes.

Two late goals from Will Shorrock and Mills rubbed salt into Malvern's wounds.
