A NEW pairing won the mixed winter competitions fourth round at The Worcestershire Golf Club in Malvern Wells.

A full field turned out in sunny but cold conditions for a greensomes format with ladies' vice-captain Julie Saunders and Patrick McIlroy winning with 42 points.

Hot on their heels were Liz Pool and Peter Hill who came second on countback.

Joyce Duncan and Alan Smith were third with 39 ahead of the next round for the Christmas foursomes on Sunday.

The Christmas goose competition attracted a large field and involved two competitions over a weekend with strong scoring.

Richard Higgs won Sunday Division One with 41 points while Ian Belsham claimed Two with 41 and Brian Pleass topped Three with 37.

David Linnie won Saturday Division One with 39, new member Bertie Williams took Two with 41 and John Green led Three with 38.

The veterans goose contest went to David Wolfendale with 46 points from Roger Turner with 41 and James Noon with 39.

The winter four-ball first round saw Andy Dunster and Jason Allies triumph with 46 points.

Duncan Rowberry and Alex Garwood-Gowers were second on countback from Greg Micheal and Dave Flanagan with both pairs on 45.
