WORCESTER City chairman Steve Goode is remaining tight lipped on efforts to rekindle takeover talks with Warriors – but not for long.

Goode confirmed there had been “a telephone conversation” between the parties since Warriors co-owner Colin Goldring publicly stated any potential deal had been taken off the table.

The City chief declined to elaborate on how it went but hopes enough has moved on to be able to update shareholders on the homeless club's options tonight (Thursday).

Those with a stake in City will vote on what is known as a drag-along motion at a general meeting at Worcestershire County Cricket Club (7pm).

If passed, directors would be able to sanction the sale of the entire club with the blessing of 60 per cent or more of the shareholding – the rest would then be required to sell at the same price.

The motion was put forward on the back of Goldring and business partner Jason Whittingham showing an interest in taking control and bringing City into the Sixways fold – they have since declared intentions to form their own community-focused football arm.

It remains relevant because City could then get the ball rolling on any future offer that receives the relevant backing or permit an outright takeover by Worcester City Supporters’ Trust, the community benefit society that has a controlling interest since being gifted all unallocated shares in the club in March.

Club and trust bosses put forward the Warriors option alongside a proposal to move to Claines Lane, the site currently owned and being redeveloped by Worcestershire FA, while remaining a fan-owned entity last month.

Goode was not in a position to provide an update on either but revealed “a lot is happening and quite quickly”, indicating more meat could be put on the bones this evening.

“I saw the report on the way Warriors want to go which is understandable,” said Goode.

“All I can say is I have had a telephone conversation, I cannot say how it went yet because we are still making decisions on the club’s future.

"Until that is sorted it would not be right but everything will be explained once it is. People will have more detail on exactly what is happening when we can go into it and unfortunately, a lot of what has been said is hearsay.

“For anyone coming it is a simple vote on the drag along and when that business is sorted we can be there to help with any questions people might have.

“We will be as open as we can be in answering them and hopefully we will be able to say a bit more by then.

“A lot is happening and quite quickly but the main thing is we get everything right before we say anything.”

Asked about timescales, Goode replied: “It will be decided as soon as possible. We have to inform Bromsgrove (Sporting, groundshare landlords) by the end of December what our intentions are about next season so time is of the essence.

“We will probably give out an answer by the end of December.”

The meeting is for shareholders only. Those selling tickets for City's Christmas draw are encouraged to bring proceeds, stubs and any unsold books.
