TEN-MAN Malvern Town crashed out of the Buildbase FA Vase third round with a 10-0 hammering at Atherstone Town.

The visitors' George Hayes was sent off on just seven minutes for handling on the line and club chairman Chris Pinder had to go in goal due to injury with Malvern 5-0 down.

Sam Belcher scored from the resulting penalty after Hayes saw red in the replay after the sides drew 3-3 on Saturday.

Malvern, hit by suspensions and injuries, conceded again on the half-hour when Kyle Cartwright bundled in a corner and then Joe Obi fired home a cross.

Obi made it 4-0 just before the break and Alex Naughton hit a fifth in the second period.

With chairman Pinder in goal after an injury to Haydn Whitcombe, Naughton notched his second from a free-kick.

On 80 minutes Naughton finished off a rebound before Obi cut through as both completed hat-tricks.

Belcher made it 9-0 and Danny Harris ensured Atherstone reached double figures in injury-time.

Malvern co-manager Lee Hooper said: “We knew we were up against it from the start with the number of players we had missing through suspension and injury.

“To then go down to 10 men within the opening seven minutes and have our keeper pull up through injury on 20 minutes just made our task even more difficult.

“We’re not making excuses. Those are the facts but take nothing away from them because they are a good side and did their job.

“It’s a bad night for the club and it hurts. The lads know that not enough of them put in a shift after we were reduced to 10 men.

"We were not good enough in possession and let ourselves down.

“We have to draw a line under it and make sure that we’re ready to go again on Saturday and get back into winning ways in the league.

“We had a good number of supporters who made the trip and we thank them for their backing.”
