RACER Harry Yardley-Rose finished just one point behind the Motorsport UK British Kart Championships title winner.
The Hanley Castle High School pupil, 15, impressed at a high level of racing and hopes to eventually move into GT car driving.
Yardley-Rose went into the final two rounds 25 points behind the leader as the only other competitor from a field of 40 with a shot at taking the title.
He drove hard right to the end to finish just one behind the champion in second position but 32 ahead of the third-placed entrant.
A draw would have secured him the title on countback.
During the year there were 12 rounds held across the United Kingdom which yielded Yardley-Rose eight podiums comprising two wins, four seconds and two thirds.
The young driver has been invited to the Autosport International Show at The NEC Birmingham next January to receive his runners-up trophy.
Next year Yardley-Rose is looking to move from karts to cars.
He has tested a Ginetta G40 sports car for a televised race series supporting the British Touring Car Championship on major circuits in the UK.
Yardley-Rose is seeking sponsorship and any business interested is asked to email his father at robinjrose@aol.com.
