MALVERN Town will look to pull off another shock when they host higher-ranked Loughborough University in the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday (3pm).

Town enjoyed a thrilling Worcestershire FA Senior Cup win over Midland League Premier Division side Worcester City on Monday night.

Despite being down to 10 men and with defender Harry Wickett in goal after an injury to Charlie Weaver, Malvern triumphed 5-4 on penalties at Pershore Town’s Community Stadium after drawing 5-5 in an action-packed 90 minutes.

Now Town, who won five out of six games in October, look to continue their Vase progress with the second round tie against the United Counties League Premier Division high-fliers.

The game will be at Stourport Swifts’ Walshes Meadow as work on the HDanywhere Community Stadium has been held up by the wet weather.

Co-manager Dene Whittal-Williams said after the county cup success: “We’ll take this into Saturday’s FA Vase game now.

“It’s going to be a tough one but we will go into it with no fear and determined to enjoy the occasion.

“There will be a few lads missing through a combination of injury and suspension but we will do what we can to make it through to the next round.

“We go into it with a boost after Monday’s victory over Worcester City and based on the positives from that performance we have nothing to fear if we continue to dig in and work as hard as we did.

“There is a tremendous amount of character among this group and with plenty of good backing from our supporters we will go out there and give it everything that we’ve got.

“We’ve had to display plenty of resilience throughout our run in this competition and this will have to come to the fore again on Saturday against a good side who have started their league campaign well.”

Town beat Loughborough 2-1 last January in their run to lift the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup.

Malvern's Vase progress began with a replay victory against Pershore Town before a 5-2 triumph over NKF Burbage and an extra-time success over GNP Sports.

The reserves head to Westfields Reserves in the Herefordshire FA League Premier Division on Saturday (2.30pm).
