HANLEY Swan moved up into third place in Cheltenham League Division One with a 2-0 home win over Newton.

Cathal McTernan and Kevin Moore scored the goals for Hanley who play the return fixture at the bottom-of-the-table side on Saturday.

Malvern Vale went down to sixth with a 3-2 defeat at Prestbury Rovers.

With Vale defender Jordan Richards starting a two-match ban, an end-to-end game produced chances for both sides.

Kris Bottrell could not fire home from a narrow angle while at the other end Alen Damadzic deflected a cross behind off the post.

Vale broke through on 21 minutes when Bottrell’s pass released Ryan Knowles who calmly slotted home from the edge of the box.

Fifteen minutes later Knowles crossed in before Ameer Khan neatly turned to fire into the net.

Nick Jones was fouled on the edge of the area and his goalbound effort was headed over.

But just before the interval Prestbury broke the offside trap and neatly rounded the stranded keeper Marcin Celmer to slot home from a narrow angle.

While Vale probably edged the first half it was much the reverse in the second period.

Khan's free-kick was saved and claims were waved away when Bottrell's cross appeared to strike the arm of a defender.

And Prestbury won a free-kick which was headed in to level.

But then Vale's Andre Rodrigues fired over a penalty and with five minutes left a Prestbury corner came off defender Valdino Correia’s knee past Celmer to give the hosts all three points.

Welland Reserves lost 2-0 at Leckhampton Rovers in Division Two.

Malvern Vale Reserves beat Winchcombe Town Reserves 3-1 in the Minor Charity Cup thanks to Ashley Dallow, Joe Dallow and Joe Turner.

Substitute Simon Vaughan's goal 10 minutes from time gave mid-table Welland a 1-0 success at Enville Athletic in Midland League Division Three.

Jack Shemwell and Ryan Shemwell netted as Upton Town drew 2-2 at home to Coventrians.

On Saturday, Welland host Continental Star and Upton head to Enville.
