A NEW-LOOK Severn Stars team missed out on the British Fast5 All-Stars Championships final stages.

Stars lost to 2019 Vitality Netball Superleague runners-up Wasps and reigning champions Manchester Thunder.

New head coach Melissa Bessell said: “It was a mixed bag for us.  "There was great team bonding along with some strong combinations played but we were short on points when the final whistle blew.

"Fast 5 is fast and furious. It’s all about the ‘long bombs’ and ours were just short.”

Stars lost to 2018 Fast 5 champions Wasps in the opener at London's Copper Box Arena.

Summer signing Liana Leota showed off her ball skills for Stars but Wasps won 30-22 with more shots from the higher scoring zone.

Against Thunder, strong shooting from Paige Reed and Alyssa-Jean Savelio and defensive pressure by Leana de Bruin kept it competitive.

But consistent three-pointers by Thunder added to the longer-range shots not sinking for Stars saw the game end 27-14.

Stars player Ella Powell-Davis said: “It’s not quite the result we hoped for but there were so many positives to take from this experience and we can’t wait to get going again in preparation for the VNSL season (in 2020).”
