MALVERN Rugby Club's under 18s colts won their opening game of the season 22-5 against local rivals Bromsgrove.

The Spring Lane hosts took advantage of the sunny conditions and their dynamic style eventually wore the larger Bromsgrove team down.

Malvern train every Tuesday at 7pm under Worcester Warriors and England back row Ted Hill.

New players are welcome.

Malvern's next game is at home to Old Halesonians on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Malvern's first XV start their competitive season at Shrewsbury in the North Midlands Shield first round on Saturday (3pm).

Malvern won the final two seasons ago the last time they played in the competition.

Director of rugby Rob Cook said: "After a strong pre-season we are looking forward to starting the season.

"To do so in the cup against opposition in Shrewsbury that we do not have the chance to play against usually as they are in the opposite league to us will be a real test.

"We know Shrewsbury will be strong opposition especially at their own ground.

"I would, as all the players would, welcome as much travelling support as possible to hopefully kickstart the season in style."
