POWICK 1, STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS 0

POWICK got back to winning Sport Italia West Midland Division Two ways on Saturday with a hard fought victory against Stone Old Alleynians at Victoria Park.

The game looked to be heading towards a goalless draw, when with 10 minutes to go a move saw Powick play the ball from left to right across midfield, ending up with Mark Brookes finding himself one-on-one with Stone's left back. Brookes managed to work himself a yard of space enabling him to cross cleverly finding Simon Rea just inside the 18 yard box, who scored powerfully from a tight angle.

Powick also looked to have strong claims for a penalty in both halfs when Stone's defenders looked to have handled inside the penalty box, but on both occasions the referee gave a free-kick just outside the area.

Although it was not a convincing win, Powick were never really troubled in defence and welcomed the three points, moving them further up the table.

There was outstanding performances from Lee Henderson and man-of-the-match Mark Brookes in midfield, who were both instrumental in the fine football Powick played.

Powick's attention turns to the WFA Junior Cup tomorrow (Saturday), when they entertain local team Perrywood with kick-off being brought forward to 2pm, players to meet at ground at 12.50pm.
