ANDY Basford hosted his club captain's charity day event at Broadway Golf Club.

Bobby Webb, Bernard Donoghue, Philip Cloke and Barry Folkes won the morning men's Florida scramble, which attracted a 72-strong field, with 58.8 nett.

James Mooney, Keith Burton, Andy Campbell and Paul Oliver finished second with 59.9 on countback from Steve Griffin, Dave Morris and Paul Walker.

Seventeen mixed afternoon teams contended with wet conditions and played the same format.

Jane and Ian Nicholson, Irene Hawkes and Keith Taylor triumphed with 63.7 nett.

Sonny Nangle, Veronica Rudd, Colin Mitchell and Beccie Williams were second on 64.8 while Andy Sutton, Camilla Haines and Maureen Wheeler got third with 65.2.

The day raised £2,400 for the captain's chosen charities Maggies and Myeloma UK.

Liz Smith claimed the Winifred Stephens Trophy ahead of runner-up Jan Titley after the ladies played a medal.

In the Silver Division, Smith won with 71 nett from Rhiannon Gadsby Evans who was second on countback from Annabelle Carter with both on 73. 

Titley headed up the Bronze Division with 73 ahead of Veronica Rudd on 77 and Molly King-Smith on 80.

Broadway’s past captains and officers contested the Sutton Cup in a blustery wind.

From 24 competitors seniors captain John Friend won with 39 points from Bernard Donoghue on 37.
