WORCESTER Raiders may have to put title celebrations on ice with rivals Darlaston Town “considering all available options” over the award of championship-deciding points from an abandoned match.

Darlo’s committee today released a statement on the back of being knocked down to second in West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Division One after league officials ruled the result of Raiders’ match at Bustleholme would be allowed to stand.

Raiders had led 3-1 in the second minute of added time when a brawl broke out involving players and staff of both clubs and members of the crowd, prompting referee Peter Durnall to call a premature halt.

The result was temporarily scrubbed and as it panned out, Raiders needed the three points they had been on course to earn to top Darlo in the chase for the crown and single promotion place.

An FA Disciplinary Commission found charges of failure to control players, staff or spectators proven against both clubs as well as a separate charge against Bustleholme manager Scott Holden.

Rule 20 E of the FA's Standard Code that applies to the WMRL state “the management committee shall rule that neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed” for fixtures abandoned “owing to the conduct of both teams or their club member(s).”

While Darlaston are not directly involved in the case, the FA could be asked to consider whether the league’s top brass has applied the standard code – uniform FA regulations that apply to clubs in each league at that level.

The statement reads: “Together with all other Division One clubs we received an email from the West Midlands Regional League (WMRL) informing us of the outcome of a management committee meeting held on Monday, May 13.

“The committee discussed the abandonment of the game between Bustleholme and Worcester Raiders on March 19 and have allowed the score at the time of the abandonment to stand.

“Both clubs were found guilty of misconduct breaches under rule E20 by an FA (Disciplinary) Commission. The WMRL management committee "unanimously agreed that the punishment imposed on both clubs was sufficient and did not warrant any further sanction".

“Whilst the outcome is particularly important to Worcester Raiders and ourselves, there are other issues to consider. The club is taking advice and considering all available options.

“The club will be making no further comment until such time that this matter is finally resolved whatever course of action, if any, the club decides to pursue.”

This latest development is in addition to the ongoing investigation into allegations and counter claims of racism and violence made in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw between Raiders and Darlo at Claines Lane in February.

Raiders chairman Kevin Jenkins declined to comment.
