COLWALL increased their lead at the top of Worcestershire League Division One after an eight-wicket home victory over Burghill, Tillington and Weobley.

Put into bat, Burghill had no answer to the seam attack of Mike Gooch (3-14), Dan Newby, Luke Dalley (2-18) and Andy Robertson (3-34) as they slumped to 83 all out in the 36th over.

Colwall had few problems passing the target with only two wickets down.

Captain Ben Cooke (31 not out) and James Abel (30) put on 61 for the first wicket.

Ben Wheeler thrashed three fours and a six in his 20no to settle the issue in style.

But Colwall’s three other teams suffered defeat with only 10 men.

A heavily-depleted seconds team lost by just 17 runs at Division Five leaders Claverley despite a century from Steve Coffey.

Stu Martin took 4-73 and Toby Clifford 2-31 as Claverley reached 219-8 from 50 overs.

Colwall struggled before Coffey nearly turned the tide in their favour with 100 but they fell to 202 all out with more than five overs left.

The thirds proved no match for Marches League Division Two visitors Canon Frome who coasted to an eight-wicket win.

Frome restricted the hosts to 143-6 after openers Steve Wright (53) and Dick Tugwell (39) shared a first-wicket stand of 88.

Ben Childs completed an unbeaten century in reply with the winning run in the 24th over.

Colwall fourths lost by eight wickets at Division Four rivals Bosbury who skittled them out for just 26 in 16.4 overs.

James Ashcroft (4-7), Alex Tyrer (2-16) and Mark Mudh (2-0) took the wickets while Cam Smith claimed 2-24 as Bosbury eased home in the eighth over.
