DEFIANT boss Karl Gormley insists it is party time for Worcester Raiders tomorrow – whatever happens to their hopes of lifting two trophies.

Table-topping Raiders face Sikh Hunters in the West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Division One Cup final at Bilston Town (3pm) while also awaiting their fate in the league.

Title rivals Darlaston Town need just a point from their final league match, a trip to bottom club Telford Juniors tomorrow (3pm), to go back to the top while Raiders sweat on the outcome of their abandoned match with Bustleholme from March 19.

The city side led 3-1 at York Road in the second minute of added time when a brawl involving players and staff from both teams and members of the crowd saw referee Pete Durnall prematurely call time.

A WMRL spokesperson confirmed at the time that the result could still be allowed to stand but the league’s standard code of rules indicates if both clubs get found to have caused the abandonment that “neither team will be awarded any points for that competition match and it shall not be replayed”.

If Raiders get awarded the points then they take the title and single promotion place, if not and Darlo win they miss out on both. The matter is understood to still be with the two county FAs.

“It is no further forward. We cannot see a reason for us to lose the points but there is not a lot we can do either way now,” said Gormley.

“Whatever happens we know we have won that league this season. The trophy would be nice, if those in charge disagree then that’s up to them.

“We didn’t want to prove anything to anyone other than ourselves, we wanted to know we could do it and as far as we are concerned we have.

“There have been ups and downs, every team has them. Our discipline has been 100 times better again this year and all we can do is keep moving forward.

“Next season will be tougher, we know that we will have to train harder and get players in. We are speaking to sponsors so are already getting geared up and ready for promotion if we do get it.

“What will be will be. All we can control is what is in our hands.

“We had a good old party last week and it will be the same this week too, then we can rest for a few weeks.

“How far we have come this season has been brilliant. We aimed high at the start but to actually get there is a great achievement, especially with all of the lads being from Worcester. I have really enjoyed it.”

Pre-planned parties could make life tough for Raiders in the showpiece with Alex Marsh on his honeymoon and Kyle Belmonte, Logan Stoddart and Gavin Podmore on a stag do.

“It will be a tough game, that’s all we seem to get lately but it will be good,” added Gormley.

“We still have a good squad and decent numbers available. It will give the other lads a chance, especially on the back of the past few weeks.

“It is a big day but there is not a lot of pressure on us. We will be going out to enjoy the game and have a good night after.”
