LEDBURY Town ran out 5-1 winners against lowly Tenbury Town in their penultimate Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division game of the season.

After a slow start the newly-crowned Herefordshire FA Charity Bowl champions stormed to victory with braces from Harri John and Josh Burns at New Street.

Curt Williams got the other goal while Joe Bullock played an instrumental role in the victory, setting up many goalscoring opportunities.

Even player-manager Pat Locke had his say on the pitch as he brought himself on before providing a terrific assist for John’s second.

It was a relatively quiet opening 45 minutes of play in comparison to the euphoria of the cup final win over Holme Lacy at Allpay Park the previous weekend.

John eventually broke the deadlock on the half hour mark when he putting away a great cross from Williams.

Ledbury threatened to double their lead before the interval as John was denied by a great save before Bullock rounded a defender only to shoot narrowly wide.

The hosts were straight on the attack at the start of the second period with a volley from Williams drawing a save.

Ledbury then suffered a blow when Declan Bright found an equaliser for Tenbury but they responded in fine style.

Bullock outwitted the defender with some superb skill before a great cross from a challenging angle enabled Williams to head home and make it 2-1.

Locke and fellow joint coach Dean Rutter then made a pivotal substitution when they brought Burns on in place of Dave Preece.

Burns put an effort wide before catching the defence off-guard with an impromptu strike that flew straight past the keeper.

Locke entered the fray and led by example as he displayed superb tough in midfield. He also brilliantly found John who completed his brace.

After John was denied a hat-trick Burns then bagged his second with a cheeky chip over the keeper’s head on 86 minutes.

Ledbury who are guaranteed a third place finish will bring the curtain down on their league campaign with a home clash against Fownhope on Saturday (2.30pm).

Ledbury Town Reserves returned to winning ways on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Bartestree Reserves thanks to a Sam Branch hat-trick.

Town who visit Holme Lacy Reserves on Thursday travel to Orleton on Saturday (2.30pm).
