WHAT a superb Easter...for the game in general, not just the mighty table-topping Saints!

For the Betfred Super League clubs set a new attendance record for a single round over Thursday and Good Friday with 79,173 fans across the six games.

No surprise that the biggest individual crowd of the round went to Wigan and St Helens, which attracted 22,050 supporters.

St Helens Star:

And there was another 20,000-plus attendance at the Hull FC v Hull KR derby also on Good Friday.

Leeds and Warrington both had crowds in excess of 11,000, while Castleford had just under 10,000 for their game.

Betfred Super League CEO Robert Elstone praised the fans loyalty and vows to continue to build the game.

A great opportunity for fans to continue supporting our great game is at next month’s Magic Weekend at Anfield.

Let’s hope this outstanding weather we’ve enjoyed over the Easter weekend blesses us that weekend, and we see some fantastic rugby on show, at an event that really does showcase how good our sport is.

I know we say this every year…but how many other sports could host 12 teams and 12 sets of fans over one weekend in one stadium!

The biggest draw is obviously some outstanding talent on the field.

There are a number of players standing out in the Betfred Super League this season, many coming from St Helens...but not many turning out better performances than Jonny Lomax at the moment. Jonny has really taken control of the team this season and has struck up a great rapport with the equally impressive Lachlan Coote, also Kevin Naiqama on that right edge.

St Helens Star:

Hull FC felt the full brunt of this on Monday as Naiqama helped himself to four tries after great work on the inside from Lomax, who also helped himself to a brace. It was also great to see Adam Swift return to first team action with a hat-trick off the right wing.

The two Easter fixtures also highlighted the talents of Saints flyer Regan Grace.

With a hat-trick of tries against Wigan on Good Friday, helping Saints now go one-up on the Easter Derby with 37 wins to Wigan’s 36!

With his first ever senior hat-trick he is now joint-top try scorer in the Betfred Super League, with no doubt many more to come.

The amazing Grace has really impressed me this season. There is no substitute for pace and Regan has this in abundance.

Every time he carries the ball he looks dangerous and capable of breaking the defensive line. Having wingers like Regan and Tommy Makinson is an enormous help to the Saints forward pack, allowing then to play on the front foot.

St Helens Star:

So, after very successful weekend all eyes are now on the next visitors to the TWS, the Catalan Dragons.

The Jekyll and Hyde team in the Betfred Super League come to Saints on the back of their own successful Easter with two convincing wins over London and Castleford.

However, if we continue to turn out performances as we are I have to go for a home win, by 10 points or more (4/7 at Betfred).

Finally, I have to give a special mention to a guy who has played an enormous part in the Super League era, Mr Eddie Hemmings.

As the voice of Super League calls time on his career, I want to personally thank Eddie for all he has done for our game.

He has called some iconic moments over the years, and will no doubts always be remembered by the Saints fans for the most famous of them all...Wide to West!

Enjoy your retirement Eddie...see you on the golf course next week!
