A MALVERN Hills quartet have been crowned England indoor bowls champions.
Marcus Smith, Brian Macnamara, Edris Vorsterman and Martin Smith won the national men’s over 60 fours championships in Nottingham.
After making the area final they beat a team from Somerset to reach the finals.
Malvern had a difficult first match at the nationals against a side from Clacton, winning by one shot on the last end, and then they saw off a group from Plymouth 24-15.
In the semi-finals against a team with an England international who had just knocked out last year's winners, Malvern shone to triumph 18-5 with three ends left.
The final against Tye Green, Essex, saw Malvern move 6-3 ahead and go 8-6 behind before eventually winning 23-10.
They will represent England at the British Isles Indoor Championships in Llanelli, Wales, next March.
Macnamara was also in the men’s over 60 singles where he was unfortunate to lose his first-round match 21-20.
In the men’s over 60 pairs, Smith and Martin Griffiths enjoyed a winning run before just losing their semi-final to the eventual winners.
