MALVERN youngster Alice Bond showed off her skiing skills on the slopes of Tignes as she finished second in the under 10s giant slalom at the GB Alpine Mini Race.

The nine-year-old crossed the line in 37.84 seconds at the 2019 GB Alpine Championships.

She finished half-a-second off top spot in France but was still delighted to have picked up a silver medal.

“I was so nervous when I woke up in the morning because there are so many good racers here,” said Bond who competes for Ambition Racing.

“The whole night I had been up thinking about the race so I’m really happy with how I raced to get second.

“When I realised I had finished second I was so happy because I thought I was more likely to finish third, fourth or lower.

“In skiing all the milliseconds matter, it all makes a difference if you get a little bit better.

“Every day I’m training helps make up those milliseconds which help me when I’m racing.”

The children’s championship saw more than 300 youngsters taking part across 12 different disciplines and age groups.

Bond, who goes to school at The Downs Malvern in Colwall, is a shining example of the potential stars of the future.

“Competing here is so much fun because I’ve got to know so many people,” she added.

“It’s a good race and everyone here loves the sport. The whole event is so exciting.”
