WORCESTER ace Jenny Nesbitt enjoyed "the best performance" of her career so far to add the senior women's British cross country title to her Welsh crown.

Nesbitt, 24, won at the World Cross Country Trials and UK Inter County Championships at Prestwold Hall near Loughborough.

She conquered a tricky 10-kilometre grass course which involved various loops and mini-loops, clocking 37 minutes 52 seconds.

The success secured a place in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, a week on Saturday.

Jess Piasecki, who held a significant mid-race lead, was runner-up in Leicestershire 13 seconds behind.

Nesbitt said: “Luckily I managed to figure out the course and I’m over the moon.

"With two kilometres to go hail stones started coming down and it was then I decided to push on.

“This is definitely the best performance of my career so far.

"Winning the Welsh title recently meant a lot to me but to come here and get on the world cross team I’m really happy.”

Nesbitt, who is coached by Chris Jones, continued: “I’ve had such great support and I’m so excited to be running at the world cross later this month.”

Previously, the Worcester Athletic Club runner, who claimed the Nos Galan Road Races at the end of 2018, won the Welsh senior women's race at Pembrey Country Park near Llanelli in late February.

She was untroubled on her way to an emphatic victory, covering 7,360 metres in 25.59.

Nesbitt, who attends the University of Bath, added: “I really enjoyed it.

“It means a lot to win a Welsh title on the cross country. It was where my running started so I’m very pleased with that."

Nesbitt represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games last year, finishing 17th over 10,000m in Australia.

She posted one hour 13 minutes 16 seconds at the Barcelona Half Marathon in February. Nesbitt also did the Valencia 10k in 33.10 in January.
