KING'S Worcester celebrated a first as they won the National Schools Under 18s Bowl rugby union final at Sixways.

The first XV beat Glyn School from Surrey 34-10 in Worcester for their maiden national title.

King's director of sport and rugby Jonny Mason said: “It was a fantastic performance from the team who rose to the challenge and the pressures of a national final.

"They executed the game plan well, pulling together as a team and playing with intensity and pace.

"We were rewarded not only with a win but with some exceptional highlights to look back on.

"Winning a national title is such an incredible achievement for the school and to be able to take the title at Sixways Stadium with support from a home crowd was fantastic.”

King’s full-back Charles Clark almost went over after just five minutes following a burst from deep.

But the city side eventually broke the deadlock through lock Hamish Stigant with Ethan Summerwill converting.

A driving maul 10 minutes later resulted in an unconverted try for King’s captain Max Richardson.

Just before the interval Will Bishop picked up the ball at the back of a ruck a metre out and touched down with Summerwill’s conversion drifting across the uprights.

Man of the match Richardson scored his second try two minutes after the break, evading three tackles to go over.

Glyn got their first points in the 45th minute with an unconverted try but Josh Moorhouse responded swiftly by powering over and Summerwill added the extras.

Glyn added a second unconverted try but King's had the final say with a fine effort from Worcester wing George Hale which was improved by Summerwill from a tight angle.
