MANAGER Peter Daffin heaped praise on his players after Malvern Town Reserves beat higher-ranked Feckenham 3-0 to reach the final of the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup.

Town came up against a team two levels higher but they stood up to the task and took their chances when they came at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

Warren Tonks grabbed the opener before Lanre Giwa struck twice in the second period to set up a meeting with Droitwich Spa in the final.

“This was one of our best performances of the season,” Daffin said.

“Every player took on board what was expected of them and played out of their skin.

“We were clinical in front of goal whilst also working hard defensively and we showed how good we can be against higher level opponents.

“We can now look forward to taking our place in the final of this competition at the end of the season and hopefully we can take this kind of performance in to our remaining League games.

“All of the work that we have done on the training pitch came to fruition and I couldn’t be more proud of the lads.”

Malvern had to soak up some early pressure from the visitors but got into the game as the opening period wore on.

After some decent chances Town got their noses in front when Harry Dyde linked up with Tonks who shrugged off a couple of challenge to slot home.

Malvern went into the second half with their tails up and worked hard to give their opponents no time to settle on the ball or get into any real flow.

They then doubled their advantage on 55 minutes when Giwa found the net from a tight angle.

The away side searched for a way back into the match, but were thwarted by a strong defensive display.

With 10 minutes left Giwa notched his second to seal victory. Giwa closed down well before winning the ball and guiding it home from 10 yards out.
