LEDBURY Town bounced back from their thrashing at Wellington Reserves with a 4-1 victory over Kington Town in Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division.

Pat Locke’s and Dean Rutter’s side were sent crashing to a 5-1 defeat by Wellington but they produced a demolition job of their own last weekend.

Harri John was the star of the show with a brace while Curt Williams and Tom Boyle also got on the scoresheet at New Street.

Town’s fans only had to wait two minutes before their side took the lead as John coolly struck the ball past the keeper.

Kington replied by rattling the crossbar as Ledbury then came under pressure with Mike Arlott and Tom Trigg forced into some desperate defending.

The hosts were riding their luck until a terrific 20-yard strike proved too good for keeper Cameron Simpson.

With the score at 1-1 Kington continued to threaten but Ledbury went ahead when Williams fired home James Febery’s cross just before the internal.

This proved to be a turning point as the home side stepped things up and Boyle had two shots saved on the stroke of half-time.

A period of good possession and passing from the hosts in midfield then saw a header from Febery blocked before Boyle finished the job for Ledbury’s third.

Moments later Ledbury opened up a three-goal cushion when a great ball from Arlott enabled John to embark on a run into the box before calmly slotting the ball in past the keeper.

Town continued to create chances with Boyle firing narrowly over the bar before a close-range shot from Febery was saved.

Joe Bullock then clipped the far post but the visiting defence managed to stand up to the advance of a hat-trick hungry John.

At the other end Simpson performed what was arguably the save of the game with a brave point-blank block.

One final free kick from John bounced just wide of the woodwork as his jubilant side were left to claim a well-earned three points.

Ledbury have a week break before returning to action a week on Saturday with a home clash with Kingstone Rovers (2pm).

Experienced midfielder Dave Preece scored the only goal for Ledbury Town Reserves in their 2-1 defeat at Ross Juniors in Division One.
