HANLEY Swan continued their improved form with a 9-2 home thrashing of Cheltenham League Division One basement boys Newton.

The early exchanges were fairly even with both teams creating chances but good defensive work by Matt Hoper, Chris Bunn and Chris Aston kept the score level.

Hanley took the lead when Tom Morris had an effort cleared off the line and the ball fell to Ash Bloore who headed home.

Within five minutes Hanley went further ahead as a good cross from Jackson McMullen was met by Morris who headed in.

Morris had a shot well saved before Bloore found Kevin Moore who made no mistake.

As the half came to a close Newton pulled one back from the penalty spot.

The second half started well for Hanley and within minutes Josh Hughes hit a low drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner.

This was quickly followed by a good cross from Cathal McTernan which eventually found McMullen who scored from close in.

Hanley went further ahead with Bloore scoring from the penalty spot.

Newton pulled one back but Hanley immediately added another with Bloore scoring again.

Bloore scored his fourth goal following a good run before adding his fifth from the penalty spot to complete a convincing win.

Ninth-placed Hanley are level on points with four teams above them.

They host Tewksbury Town on Saturday (2pm).
