WORCESTER Raiders romped to a 7-0 victory over neighbours Upton Town in the first round of the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup.

Five of Raiders’ goals came in a dominant first-half at Claines Lane as they blew the visitors away.

Roland Krol got the hosts off the mark before strikes from Sam Carey and Anthony Smith and a Martin Fowler double put Raiders in command.

The pick of the goals came in the second period when Luke Molloy skipped past a couple of defenders before curling the ball into the top corner from 20 yards.

Dale Goddard then completed the rout to the delight of manager Karl Gormley.

“The game was over after the third or fourth goal as Upton’s players’ heads went down,” Gormley said.

“It was nice to be able to sit down and enjoy the second half – we have not been able to do that for a while.

“Upton are a team of young, local lads but they weren’t too disheartened after the game.

“I spoke to their manager and he said they had learnt quite a lot from it.”

Raiders return to West Midlands (Regional) League Division One action on Saturday when they host Bromyard Town (3pm).

“All the lads are high on confidence,” Gormley added.

“We let a four-goal lead slip (in a 5-5 draw) against Bromyard last time so we owe them one.”

Droitwich Spa also cruised through to the next stage of the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup with a 4-0 victory over Hanley Swan.

After missing numerous chances, James Lemon opened the scoring on 28 minutes before converting a penalty at the start of the season half.

A 25-yard drive from Dan Cottrill on 66 minutes put Spa further in front before Cory Rudd’s free-kick was diverted into the net courtesy of a visiting defender.

Droitwich visit Bromyard in the league on Tuesday night (7.45pm) before making the trip to Wellington Amateurs on Saturday (3pm).

In the Premier Division, Pershore Town lost 2-0 at home to AFC Bridgnorth while nine-man Malvern Town drew 1-1 with Tividale at the HDanywhere Community Stadium.

A header from Adam Saunston gave Malvern the lead on the stroke of half-time but moments into the second period James Febery was sent off for a reckless challenge.

Curtis Smith was then dismissed after receiving a second yellow card before Ben Birch headed in the equaliser with 97 minutes on the clock.

Saturday sees Malvern visit Bewdley Town and Pershore travel to leaders Black County Rangers (both 3pm).
