SIX Malvern Triathlon Club men tackled the tough Ironman Wales in Tenby.

Chris Grubb, 35, Steve Butler, 45, Paul Cope, 45, Steve James, 50, Steve Keepax, 50, and Clifford Berry, 55, had all trained hard for the gruelling event.

It involved a two-and-a-quarter mile swim, a 112-mile bike section and a marathon.

Grubb, raising funds for St Richard’s Hospice, did his first ironman in 12 hours 12 minutes despite falling off his bike twice due to cramp.

Butler completed in 12.22, first-timer Berry clocked 13.03 and Keepax finished in 13.30.

James, in his second triathlon, was struck by the return of a hamstring tendon injury on the bike section and got through the run to do a time of 14.30.

Cope withdrew after completing the swim and bike elements due to ill health on the day.
