PROMISING Bransford golfer Harry Chadwick followed in the footsteps of two Ryder Cup players when he won the prestigious Howitt Bowl at the North Warwickshire Open.

Previous winners of the trophy, which has been competed for since 1894, have been Andy Sullivan and Paul Broadhurst.

Chadwick, 19, from Malvern, joined that illustrious band by shooting rounds of 68 three under par and 73 at the North Warwickshire club near Meriden to win the trophy by two shots.

He also had the best nett score but under the rules of the competition could not win both trophies.

It has been a successful season for Chadwick who won the Bransford Club Championship in July and brought his handicap down from five to scratch in four months.

He is a degree student at Tournament Golf College at the St Mellion course in Cornwall and the Algarve in Portugal.

“My aim is to turn professional,” he said.

“To do that I need to carry on winning and I need to secure sponsorship.”
