COLWALL Wanderers ended an emotional week with a magnificent 7-0 victory over promotional rivals Spa Rovers in McDonald’s Worcester and District Football League Division Four.

More than 200 people turned out at the club to pay tribute to 18-year-old Wanderers player Macca Davies who tragically lost his life in a road traffic incident last Monday.

A minute’s applause was held and a wreath was laid before the top of the table clash at Colwall Green.

Secretary Rich Thick said: “The turnout was fantastic. It brought everyone together and showed there was a real community spirit.

“Our opposition Spa Rovers presented us with a wreath before the game and donated their away subs to the fund-raising cause we were doing for the family which was a nice touch.

“We raised £550 on the day and there was a re-freshment stand there which raised another £287 set up by another family.”

Harry Powell, Nick Bolton and Ben Miller all bagged a brace for Colwall as they overtook Spa at the summit.

“The club only started this summer,” Thick added.

“Macca was at all the meetings from the very beginning and was fundamental in forming club.

“He lived in Cradley but went out of his way to pick players up from Ledbury to get them to away games.

“He was one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet in your life and so are his family.

“We are gutted so we wanted the family to know that were all here for them and we will do whatever we can to support them.”
