DROITWICH II v WORCESTER NOMADS II

WORCESTER Nomads Seconds travelled to Droitwich in the Division One 2nd XIs of the Worcestershire County League.

After winning the toss, Nomads 2nd XI battled hard to earn themselves a losing draw and seven points against Droitwich, the league leaders, to keep things tight at the top of the table.

Asking Droitwich to bat seemed to be the right decision at the start of the innings as the home team slumped to 61-4, due to a mixture of tight bowling from Ben Chatfield (1-32) and Dominic Harris (2-48), and some suicidal running between the wicket.

Haddock (60) and N Davies (37) then settled for an important partnership, and after a flurry of late wickets, Droitwich finished on 186-9. N Thompson being the other wicket taker with 2-50.

The winning total was always going to be tough to chase down against a tight bowling attack. Early wickets didn't help Nomads but Sam Roberts (47) batted maturely and sensibly against Woodward (2-28) and M Davies (4-43).

While wickets continued to fall at one end, Roberts carried on to almost see Nomads home before he lost his wicket.

A courageous knock from young Casey Sanders (22no) helped Nomads to reach the end of the innings at 149-9.
