DROITWICH II v BARNARDS GREEN II

BARNARDS Green Seconds travelled to a remarkably dry Droitwich for this Worcestershire Sunday League Division two fixture, having left a wet and soggy North end Lane ground.

Having won the toss, skipper Marek Wajzer inserted Droitwich, who soon lost Harvey having been bowled by Andy Wheeler, who went on to claim the first three wickets on a track that was slow and offered assistance to the bowlers.

Skipper Garbett decided that attack was the best form of defence and played some excellent cover drives, although he was dropped on three occasions by more senior members of the Green team, but was finally snapped up at slip off Dominic Horne.

Anschuman was then introduced to the attack and picked up two wickets bowling a tight line before 12-year-old debutante Dan Hunt was introduced with his leg spin and soon bamboozled Davies who was well stumped by promising youngster 12-year-old Ashlea Brewer.

Dave Price then cleared up the tail in a spell of 3-16 and could have had a hat-trick if he had not bowled a wide at the third batsman.

Droitwich all out for just 114 runs.

The Green started their innings with the father and son partnership of Bob and Nick Rogers, who sped to 38 before Nick perished for 21 on the ball before tea.

After tea, Bob Rogers took his score to 26 before he was stumped off Hunt and Anschuman was bowled by Harvey. Brewer looked very comfortable until he lobbed a return catch to Harvey, but Andy Wheeler hit several big 6s before being adjudged caught behind for 32.

Skipper Wajzer and Adam Price took the total to 114 but with the scores level, the Green lost four wickets.

Robin Longmore joined young Adam Price, but was not required to put bat on ball as Adam crashed the ball to the long-on boundary to bring victory to the Green at 118-8 in a very pleasant encounter.
