THE men of The Worcestershire Golf Club selected their most promising partners to participate in the first foursomes event of the year.
Grateful the original bogey format for the Tankard Foursomes had been superseded by a more forgiving stableford competition, a good number took to the course in fair conditions.
The field in Malvern Wells was led home by James Hayburn, playing off a handicap of 15, and his partner Mike Bolton (20) with an excellent 40 points.
Three pairings followed them home on 37 with Paul Jones (6) and Peter Basten (15) taking second place on count-back from Andy Davis (9) and Roy Cale (20) with Mark Read (5) and Phil Birch (6) fourth.
