FORTY-eight ladies took to The Worcestershire’s course to compete for the Silver and Bronze Scratch Cups and an 18-hole handicap medal.

Former ladies’ club champion Cathy Harris again secured the Silver Scratch Cup, carding an impressive gross 79 with Janet Long taking the Bronze equivalent with 94.

Playing off a handicap of six, Harris also won the Silver Division of the handicap competition with a nett 73, followed by Alison Tuck (74), Jen Bishop (75) and Pat Rose (76).

The winner of the Bronze Division was Lisa Diggins with a fine nett 70, ahead of Penny Stevenson (71), Feya Recordon (71) and Long (72).

The nine-hole stableford was won by Sally Agnew ahead of S Williams.

After a terrific run of five wins, the ladies’ Mail on Sunday team finally met their match against Burghill Valley, losing 4-1 away.

The bright star was Pat Rose, who won her match comprehensively.

In the ladies’ open pairs, home players Chris Urry and Lisa Diggins won with an outstanding 43 points over S Compton and L Lawrence, of Bromsgrove, (35).

G Jeacock and A Pendleton, of Oxfordshire’s Feldon Valley, were third with 34 and The Worcestershire’s Joss Penrhyn and Vanessa Chesterton fourth.

Meanwhile, better fortune awaited The Worcestershire men’s ‘A’ team who returned to winning ways with a 4-2 home win over Sapey.

The result of the day was a win for former Sapey member Brian Kendall (12 handicap) and the ever-reliable Kevin Carter (6) against a strong pairing 3&2.

Jason Allies (5) and Lee Whittall (7) won 4&3 and the in-form Richard Sebok (11) and county first teamer Steve Lane (+1), making his debut this season, triumphed 3&1.

There were halves for Paul Wakely (11) with Andy McCabe (5) and Geoff Fox (5) with Andy Dunster (6).

The only loss was for the experienced duo of Phil Birch (6) and Mark Read (5) unluckily losing on the last, one down.

Sebok also won Division One of the Mid-week Medal with a nett 70 from Tom Howells (4-70) and Ian Belsham (11-71). However, the individual achievement of the week came from David Anderson in Division Two.

Returning a superb nett 61, he reduced his handicap from 24 to 20, while runnerup Andy Turner reduced his from 21 to 19 with 67.

The Past Captains’ Lowe Cup resulted in an exact tie for the first time in its long history. The 38 points achieved by both Brian Coleman and Andy Davis were recorded on identical holes.

Club captain Mike Sterry led a team of mixed golfers to a comprehensive 7-3 victory at home to Kidderminster.
