ANGLING MALVERN United fished their Fitzwater Trophy match on the Droitwich canal at Ladywood.

Despite strong winds and heavy showers forecast, calmer pegs were found where small perch, rudd and roach fed from the start.

However, boats passing down the canal disturbed the water and fish became more difficult to catch.

In the end, Ian Goddard won with 2lbs 13oz on polefished maggots ahead of Chris Loveridge’s 2-12 with a waggler under the far bank.

John Shaw caught 2-6 and Graham Rees 2-4.

The Wednesday evening scrambles first round saw a good turn-out at Holdfast in a match dominated by eels.

Jon Harcourt, Pete Roberts and John Barr all managed 2-0 but were beaten by the inform Goddard with 2-14.

DARTS TERRY Jenkins reached the Players Championship Five quarter-finals in Crawley, losing to world championship runner-up Michael van Gerwen.

The Ledbury thrower was beaten 6-3 by the Dutchman, having seen off Vernon Sheppard 6-5, John Henderson 6-0, former world champion John Part 6-3 and David Pallett 6-3.

EQUESTRIAN GREAT Britain won the FEI Nations Cup Dressage Series second leg in Rotterdam with a fine display from Newent’s Charlotte Dujardin.

The 27-year-old produced the biggest score of the competition with a strong performance from her London 2012 Olympic Games double-gold medal winning partner Valegro.

Just over 1.5 percentage points gave the British the edge over the hosts but the Dutch led the league table as the four-leg pilot season moved on to Aachen, Germany.

Dujardin headed the individual rankings with 82.191 and Newent’s Carl Hester was fourth with Fine Time on 71.532.

She said: “I’m really happy.

Obviously, there were a few blips but Valegro has not been out since December.

“His last competition was at Olympia so, to come here and perform the way he did and with such confidence, was brilliant.

“I had a really good ride but I know there are a few things I need to sharpen up.”
