THE improving Laura Speers won The Worcestershire’s English Women’s Golf Association monthly medal with a nett 73.

Division One was claimed by Pat Rose (75) from June Jones (76) with Cathy Harris (76) third.

Janet Manning-Cox (77) was second to Speers in Division Two with Sandra Schofield (77) third, while Pauline Taylor (75) won Division Three.

The nine-hole stableford was bagged by Jan Strain with 17 points from Betty Mitchell (16) and Jenny Jones (15).

A smaller entry for the weekend medal in Malvern Wells saw another success for Alison Tuck (73 nett) in the Silver Division with Jane Poynder taking the Copper.

A team of 12 ladies hosted Worcester Golf and Country Club in the annual Kathleen Noble Trophy contest and won by a significant margin of 40.

The nett medal play scores of the best eight in each team contributed towards the overall effort.

The DICL ladies were less successful, losing 4-1 at home to a strong team from Churchill and Blakedown.

For the men, in the EW Evans Centenary Stableford second round, Steve Carter carded the best round in winning Division Two with a total of 43 points from Mike Bothma (39) and John Whitehead (39).

Division One went to Mark Wright (38) from Mark Read (38) and Tom Howells (35) who beat Bruce Duncan and Phil Dance on count-back to secure third place.

In Division Three, Joshua Marshall emerged from the junior ranks to win with 36 from Frank Turner (34) and Andrew Whiteley (33).

The Worcestershire men’s ‘B’ team, led by club vicecaptain Roger Brierly, took on Worcester Golf and Country Club in blustery conditions at home.

The close four ball better ball match resulted in a respectable half.

Meanwhile, a mixed team of eight pairs had an enjoyable though less successful trip to Ludlow.

In cool and windy conditions, the visitors lost 6-2 with the successful pairs being team captain Mike Tubb and Mary Horrobin and Brian Piner and Jill Piner.
