MALVERN maintained their good start to the Worcestershire League Division One season with a 4-2 home win over Kidderminster.
Brian Turner, Geoffrey Herbert and Leigh Canham drew their games but were all under pressure at some time.
Matthew Jordan set Malvern on their way, winning a piece then advancing a passed pawn to force his opponent’s resignation.
John Knee clinched the victory with a good positional triumph, leaving his rival with no prospect of counterplay.
In an exciting finish, Ian Clarke, in time trouble, played 20 moves in five minutes to reach a drawn position and leave Malvern victors.
