TERRY Jenkins will aim to build on his recent upturn in fortunes when he opens his William Hill Grand Slam of Darts campaign today.

The Ledbury ace, who reached the quarter-finals of both Players’ Championship events last weekend, is part of a stellar field competing for the £100,000 top prize at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

Jenkins, a finalist in 2008, has been drawn in Group ‘G’ alongside number six seed Wes Newton, the European Championship and UK Open finalist, Dutchman Wesley Harms and Martin Phillips, from Wales.

Following the round-robin section, the top two in each of the eight groups of four will progress to the last 16 knockout stages at the televised competition.

The Bull showed good form in reaching the last eight of the two Players’ Championships at Crawley’s K2 Centre.

However, on each occasion the 49-year-old was ousted by Australian star Simon Whitlock, 6-4 in the first tournament, which was eventually won by the Wizard from Down Under, and 6-5 in the second.

In the first, Jenkins scooped £1,000 after defeating James Richardson (6-5), Mick Todd (6-1), Colin Osborne (6-4) and Gary Anderson (6-3) on the way.

Following a first-round bye in the second event, victories over Ross Smith (6-0), Osborne (6-3) and Anderson (6-1) again secured a £1,000 cheque with Michael van Gerwen winning the final.
