MALVERN’S Callie Halliday rounded off her 2012 season with an outstanding result at the British Open Canoe Slalom.
The event on the Olympic course at Lee Valley White Water Centre only involved competitors ranked in the national premier division to ensure a high standard.
Halliday, 18, got off to a good start by finishing fifth and qualifying for the semi-finals the next day.
As the weather took a turn for the worse, a tough competition now featured freezing temperatures, heavy rain and wind.
At the end of the second runs, the University of Worcester student secured fourth place and was only beaten by full Great Britain team members.
The teenager picked up the prize for first under 23s C1 woman and finished her season ranked as one of the top C1 GB lady paddlers.
After several weeks of rest, Halliday will be in full winter training with Worcester Canoe Club.
