ANDREW Fletcher’s header four minutes into injurytime earned Malvern Town a 2-1 win over basement boys Willenhall Town.

The visitors arrived with a new management team of Neil Perks and Josh Skidmore as well as 10 playing additions for the West Midlands League Premier Division fixture.

Willenhall goalkeeper Tom Wright fluffed his kick early on but Craig Carter was not close enough to take advantage.

Dave Reynolds then fired over the bar from five yards after Wright had parried a Carter effort.

Malvern continued to be well on top and Reynolds went close with a lob before firing off target again after controlling the ball well in the build-up.

However, Willenhall’s first effort was a free-kick from captain Craig Oldfield, which went wide, but Malvern finally took the lead on 36 minutes.

A Chris Allen free-kick reached forward Reynolds who headed home at the near post.

However, keeper Ian Hill kept the lead intact in firsthalf stoppage time by blocking a goalbound Marvin Whitter shot.

Malvern struggled to get the second goal after the break with Wright saving with his legs from Carter and Jamie Thomas tripping over the ball as he moved in on goal.

Reynolds could not quite reach Carter’s dangerous cross on 64 minutes and then the striker fired marginally over from 20 yards.

Chances continued to come and go with Lee Hooper denied by Wright and Thomas driving wide.

Malvern’s inability to score again uplifted Willenhall and they started to come into the game more.

Willenhall levelled on 71 minutes through Whitter and could have taken the lead when Oldfield and substitute Matt Dorgan struck the crossbar in quick succession.

Malvern hit back and Ed Lyons failed to take a one-onone opportunity before the hosts earned a crucial corner in injury-time.

Thomas crossed into the box and Fletcher headed home to secure all three points for the Langland Stadium outfit.

The reserves picked up their first Division Two success of the season by triumphing 5-1 at Ettingshall Park Farm with goals from Oliver Endacott (2), Reece King (2) and Omar Elmougy.
