POLICE patrols have been stepped up at a quarry in the Malvern Hills during the recent heatwave.
Officers from West Mercia Police have been patrolling Gullet Quarry, where a number of people have drowned over the years.
The notorious beauty spot claimed the lives of Justas Juzenas, aged 22, of Ross-on-Wye and Russell O’Neill, aged 17, of Worcester who both drowned there in July 2013 within a week of each other.
Since then, police have regularly fought to stop people from going and swimming in the quarry with warning signs and public information campaigns.
Sadly though, groups still have to be moved on and warned of the dangers of swimming in the quarry, which include submerged debris and toxic elements.
Last summer, 50 people were moved on in a single day, with what appeared to be a party taking place on the shoreline.
Along with drowning, officers also said there was a danger of rockslides.
