A HUGE explosion rocked a farm near Malvern this morning as customers were chosing their Christmas trees.

One man was injured and emergency services raced to the scene of the explosion at Leigh Sinton Christmas Tree Farm just after 11am.

Shocked customers were evacuated as three fire tenders, police and ambulance dealt with the emergency.

The injured man was treated for burn wounds to his hands and shock as firefighters tackled the blaze in outbuildings at the back of the farm on the Leigh Sinton Road.

Malvern Gazette and Ledbury Reporter editor John Murphy witnessed the explosion.

"I was with my wife Nicola and we were just chosing a Christmas tree when a huge explosion stopped us in our tracks. I was looking in the general direction of the blast anyway and saw debris being thrown hundreds of feet into the air. It was like a scene from a disaster movie.

"I started to go around the back of some outbuildings where the explosion had occured but someone said there were gas canisters stored there so I backed off."

Police and firefighters arrived at the scene as the wounded worker was evacuated from the scene of the blast.

First reports were that a petrol tank had exploded but firefighters were still at the scene this morning trying to contain the fire and stop it spreading to other buildings on the farm.
