SIR – Alan Amos spouts the usual right wing nonsense in his letter (It seems crime pays, July 22) re Shamima Begum.

Before he did so he really should have viewed what that ultra right winger Jacob Rees-Mogg said about Begum on Question Time two years ago.

He pointed out that Begum was a child when she left this country and had lost two children (now three).

He argued for compassion, something too many people in this country seem to lack, Alan Amos included.

His comments about our independent judiciary are typical those of all political persuasions who cry foul when they dislike a judicial decision.

I say thank goodness they have that independence and are not political appointees. That way they can freely uphold the rule of law.

Isis is an utterly abhorrent and amoral organisation. Its brutality is extreme. The sooner it can be fully defeated the better.

However, that should not allow a schoolgirl to be deprived of the right to present a proper case against the removal of her British citizenship. That surely cannot be done from the squalid camp where she now is.

Should the Government appeal to the Supreme Court I hope it is defeated.

Thereafter it should not be beyond it to ensure that Begum has a very limited freedom whilst here. There is also no reason why she could not be tried for what she has done.

As a final point, congratulations to David Robertson for his excellent letter (Factually wrong, morally repugnant, July 22) re asylum seekers. I completely agree with what he says.
