A FEW days ago, the Worcester News launched a new feature which we hope will go from strength to strength as it shines a spotlight on the efforts of the city's unique, specialist and independent traders, many of whom have gone above and beyond during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Some have adapted, for example many restaurants have offered takeaway or pick up, while others have embraced the power of social media or became part of the nation’s army of helpers and volunteers in their community.

Even in tough times such as this, there are a number of traders in and around Worcester who are providing their customers with the best possible service.

And as the lockdown is eased, more and more traders are able to open their doors again, adding to the shops selling essential items that have got us through the last few months.

Once they return, they will get back to serving the communities that appreciate them so much.

One such business is Neighbourhood deli, run by owners Matt Haley and Clint Webbe in Reindeer Court in the city centre.

The pair only launched the business in December, so to say the opening few months have been a trying experience would be an understatement.

The situation has not been made any easier by a dispute over a landlord-tenant relationship which featured in the Worcester News last month.

The shop makes and sells local and house-made deli favourites, ferments, preserves, sourdough, kombucha, salads, donuts, specialty food and drinks and "Saturday specials and killer sandwiches".

Clint added: "We often get requests for the strange and unusual foodstuffs, but we’re always happy to oblige!

"It’s only two of us in the team, and we manage to make around 90 per cent of our food from scratch – and we only use local suppliers, producers and creators."

If you know of a business or have a business that deserves a moment in the spotlight, you can let us know.

Tell us all about it here and we’ll do the rest.

Let’s give some recognition to our local traders – they deserve it.
