YESTERDAY was the funeral of brave NHS nurse, Jodon Gait.
Although not born here, Jodon left his family in the Philippines and dedicated 15 years of his life to caring for Worcester people.
He is a real life super hero and his service reflected that. Friends and colleagues gathered at the crematorium to create a guard of honour and applauded his coffin as it arrived.
He is not the only Worcester nurse to lose their life to coronavirus and sadly we cannot say for sure whether there will be any more tragedies.
But we do know the legacy they leave will stay in our hearts for a long time.
The courage and strength showed by Jodon and many others has been so humbling. The nurses who have paid the ultimate sacrifice deserve to be called heroes.
But while our thoughts are with Jodon’s family and friends, please remember too his colleagues. The nurses putting on their PPE every single day and heading into our hospital knowing exactly the danger they face.
Their grit and determination is astounding.
