Dozens of cars were seen queuing to get into the city tip this morning as it reopens for the first time since lockdown began.

The Household Recycling Centre on Bilford road reopened at 8am this morning. Queues were already 30 cars long when a Worcester News reporter visited this morning.

Traffic calming measures are in place along Bilford Road and cars are queuing in Perdiswell Leisure Centre opposite the tip.

Only a few cars are allowed into the tip at a time to ensure social distancing is still possible.

A Highways Worcestershire worker at the tip said: "We have already seen 60 cars go come through this morning, I expect it will get much busier as the day goes on but we will have to see."

Other tips opening this morning include Newlands in Malvern, Hill and Moor in Pershore and Bonemill in Stourport.

Trips must only be undertaken if your waste or recycling cannot be stored at home without causing risk of injury, health or harm, and cannot be disposed of safely by other means.

If waste or recycling can be stored temporarily in a way that does not pose a risk to safety or human health, then you must do so.

Strict social distancing measures will be in place at each site and there will be a number of restrictions.

These include limiting numbers of vehicles permitted entry to the sites at any time and there is a warning queues and delays are likely.

Due to social distancing measures staff cannot provide assistance, so make sure you are able to unload your waste unaided.
