SIR – Parliament is back albeit in virtual form, while the NHS struggles to cope with the very real pandemic.

MPs, including Robin Walker, are all, I hope, focused on making sure we manage the crisis properly and can come out better when it is over.

This includes making sure the National Health Service is strong, fully funded and able to cope with the next crisis.

I was shocked to find out that the recently published Trade Bill does not include protection for our NHS from trade deals.

Johnson promised the NHS would not be for sale. How many lies has he peddled already?

How insulting it would be if instead of a pay rise and a stronger Health Service, we get more US companies sucking profit from our ill-health and misery. Especially after the sacrifices NHS staff have made, dying as a result of doing their job.

But it’s not too late to put in place strong protection for our NHS.

I want to call on Robin Walker to commit to amending the Trade Bill so that our health service cannot be opened up to yet more privatisation through trade deals.

We have seen the damage done by the privatisation of another national asset: rail.

I look forward to their response.
